on your new mortgage, or be turned down for a mortgage

. Your FICO score may also indicate that you aren't
responsible enough to hold the new job your applying for, or that
you won't make your rental payments in

reasons, your credit report is important and can have some major
negative consequences if the negative items on it aren't taken
care of.
The credit bureaus are interested
in making money by acquiring information about individual consumers so that
they can turn around and sell it. What the credit bureaus aren't
particularly interested in is whether the information is accurate and error free.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act attempts to solve this problem by
placing the credit bureaus under the obligation of investigating
items on consumers' credit reports that are brought before them
for dispute. Unfortunately the law also leaves the credit reporting
bureaus ways to get out of performing the costly investigations.
